About the CIMA Qualification
By becoming a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) memberyou will join the largest professional body of management accountants. You will be able to use the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation and be part of a truly global network. The CGMA designation is powered by two of the world’s leading accounting bodies – CIMA and AICPA. It aims to establish management accounting as the most valued profession in business worldwide.
The syllabus is strong on the core accounting skill, but also includes ‘Big Data’, sustainability, integrated reporting and finance function transformation. You also study risk, as well as costing and cost management. Passing your CIMA assessments at every level shows to an employer that you have a grasp of theory and practice..
To qualify as aCIMA member, you will need to complete:
|Exams||A minimum of five out of 17 exams (up to a maximum of 12 are eligible for exemption*) please scroll to the bottom of this page for detailed information on the examinations|
|Experience||Record 36 months’ experience in a relevant management accounting role|
*Up to 12 of the exams which are part of the qualification may not need to be taken if you have other relevant qualifications at the same level. You will need to provide proof of your previous qualifications so you can claim exemptions.
School Leaver – As a school leaver, you begin CIMA by studying the CIMA Certificate In Business Accounting, which will give you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of Management Accounting. The certificate is a standalone qualification as well as being a stepping stone to the CIMA professional qualification.
Undergraduate or Graduate – You may be eligible for exemptions from CIMA depending on qualifications you are studying or have completed. This will need to be an accredited degree by CIMA or a degree relating to accounting, business or finance law. You can check this through the CIMA online exemption checker
MBA Holder – If you hold an MBA or Masters In Accounting then you may be eligible for the Masters Gateway route (12 exemptions fast track route)
Member of a professional Body–If you are a member or a passed finalist of an IFAC body or a member or finalist of the management accounting bodies ICWAI, ICMAB, ICMAP then you may be entitled to entry into the fast track Gateway examination route (12 exemptions)
At Phoenix we offer classroom tuition for the Professional Level examinations. There are 3 levels to clear comprising of objective test question examinations and integrated case studies. Students are awarded a Diploma In Management Accounting on completion of the Operational level case study and an Advanced Diploma In Management Accounting after completing the Management level case study.
